Currently relaxing on the sofa by the fire in the Irish country side after my 5th week of high mileage training since new year. I've been lucky to escape the cold weather in the UK, by training for 3 weeks in Alicante, Spain, and now one week through a 3 week spell in Dungarvan, Ireland.
Since 11th Jan, I've been training with Irish walker Jamie Costin, as we train towards our first races of the season, both hoping for olympic qualifiers!! (this could be his 4th olympics compared to my first!)
So far I've made it through winter with few injuries or illness (long may that continue please), and been on 120k weeks since December. I got to enjoy my self in Alicante one evening as turned 22 on the 17th Jan.
Really concentrating on the longer sessions so I think my speed is lacking, but we will see this weekend as I open my 2012 season at the Irish National Indoor Championships in Belfast over 5k. Not sure if I will get close to my outdoor 5k record from last summer.
Then I look onto my first 20k of the season and my first chance to get the Olympic B qualifier!
But for now Im just gonna keep pushing hard through the miles.....
