That is how i envisioned the start of my indoor season going. Coming off the best season of my life so far, i thought it would be a no brainer that the few indoor meets i contested would have me posting impressive times. Not the case! I opened up with a lacklustre 21.47 clocking at my first individual race in Nampa, Idaho last weekend. On the surface 21.47 might not seem too bad, especially as i won my race, but it was woeful. That race showed me i still have a LOT to work on; speed being one of the major concerns. As aforementioned, i have been running the leadoff leg for my University 4x4 team. I am yet to break 49seconds...
To say these last weeks have been discouraing would be an understatement. As everybody in our sport is aware, it is Olympic year. During Olympic year i expected to be running very smoothly, i guess everybody expets to be running well. Nobody envisions their Olympic year with hiccups and i am no exception. It is frustrating more than anything to not be competing at a level that I believe i am capable of and there is no feasible reason for it.
Positivity is key though. I will be running a 60 this weekend (and another 4x4) and hopefully my fourtunes will change. I am trying to refocus myself and put in a good performance this weekend. A PB isn't even the aim for me when i run on Saturday, i just want confirmation that i am doing the little things right. If i can execute a technically sound race i will be more than happy. As bad as i have been running this year, i must remember that indoors really has no bearing on Outdoor competition. After all, last year i ran one meet and failed to break 6.90, but went outdoors and set big PBs in both the 100 and 200...
