On the 1st May 2010 Chris Thompson made his debut over 10,000m on the track at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational meeting at Stanford University in California. He produced a jaw dropping performance recording a startling 27min 29.61sec for the 25-lap distance. It was a time which catapulted him to third UK all-time ranking lists, ahead of British Endurance greats such as Brendan Foster, Dave Bedford and Nick Jones. However for some, including us here at Athleticos his performance was not a surprise, indeed it was more a case of Chris finally fulfilling the exciting promise he had shown days as a junior, after a senior career which up until now has been plagued by a frustrating succession of injuries. Athleticos Tom Gayle caught up with Chris to talk about ‘that 10k’ and discover what it is they he feels has enable him to finally start realising his true potential.
